pre-season training...
28 November 2005
The 2006 pre-season will kick off again with training on the
Tuesday 6th December at 6.30pm.
Training will be for all senior players wishing to play in
the Premier League, Open Youth and Metro teams.
We will continue to train every Tuesday, Thursday and
Saturday (or Sunday) until the week before Xmas. We will then
have a two week break and come back in on Tuesday 3rd January.
Training will consist of ball work, games and a little
fitness training before we come back in January to start in
earnest. We intend to have the Squads close to final selection
by the end of January, to give a good lead- in, before the
season proper kicks off on the first weekend in March.
After a poor season last season, in terms of results for the
First and Reserve teams, we are looking to make big improvements
in that area. We have had a couple of seasons in the Premier
league now and must look to win things this year. A number of
former Mitchie players have returned from overseas and are keen
to play for us again and we are looking to strengthen the squad
in other areas.
If we are going to make a big push this year it means a big
effort by all involved. I will be overseeing the Premier and
Reserve teams this season and will be assisted by Enzo Dagostino
and Paul Molenda in the coaching department. Peter Bancroft and
Dave Turner will be overseeing the Youth Development network
which includes the Premier Youth, Open Youth, Under 17’s and
Under 15’s.
We will also be entering a team in the Metro 2 competition
and are currently searching for a coach or player/coach.
We have once again entered the Queensland Lions (Roar)
pre-season Silver Boot competition and will be hosting our own
Silver Boot competition at Mitchie for our Premier Reserve team
and the two Youth teams. This competition will commence on
Friday 27 January and continue up until the start of the season.
We are also working towards a pre-season camp to be held on
the Sunshine Coast on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 February 2006.
We hope to see you all there next Tuesday!

mitchelton too strong for university...
3 August 2005
UNI OF QLD 1 (Hughes)
MITCHELTON 2 (Iwai, Pase)
Half time 0-1
A strengthened Mitchelton side returned to winning ways this
weekend at the expense of the Uni of Queensland with a 2-1 win
at St Lucia on Sunday afternoon. The win gave Mitchelton the
Mick Faraj memorial trophy for this season with the winner
decided from results every season in memory of the ex Uni and
Mitchie player.
It also ensured that Uni will have to fight back again to
avoid being dragged into the relegation battle after some recent
results lifted them away from the danger zone. They are now only
three points ahead of Brisbane City and Toowoomba Raiders, the
two bottom sides and still have a number of difficult games
ahead in August.
The return of Damian Pilat and Josh Condon added some
experience and strength into the backline for Greg Brown's side
who adopted a physical approach in the first half. "We played
much better than we had in previous weeks, we were a lot more
stable in the back and were able to push Jason Roberts into the
middle which gave us some added depth in midfield," Brown said.
Mitchelton were the better of the two sides in the first half
and on the half hour mark Mitchelton's Richard Iwai broke the
deadlock following some great control as Uni keeper Boyd Kildey
charged him. Iwai delicately chipped his effort into the net to
give his side a 1-0 half time lead.
A fired up University side levelled the scores just minutes
into the second half after Will Sommerville played a ball across
to Matt Hughes who controlled and turned on the 18-yard box
netting his effort and pulling the Barracudas back into
contention. Matt Hughes and Will Sommerville continued to cause
headaches for Greg Brown along with Steve Unsworth up front
while Alistair Pase was working overtime for Mitchelton and it
soon paid off.
The University side were dominating the opening stanza of the
second half but soon found themselves behind again on the hour
after Pase snuck in behind the University defence to collect the
ball, slotting his effort past Kildey, giving his side a 2-1
win.
"To University's credit they were playing the ball around
quite well, they got men into the box and they had some chances.
But we deserved the win I thought, we outplayed them," Brown
said.
University’s Matt Hughes looked forward to an interesting
season right till the last match, "We were keen to get the
points today to give us a buffer from the lower teams but it
doesn't seem to be our style. We like to keep it interesting
right till the end of the season. Mitchelton hold the Mick Faraj
trophy now, so hopefully we can go over to Mitchelton next
season and win it back," Hughes said
Preview
Leaders Palm Beach will head to Mitchelton determined to keep
their lead at the top of the table. Mitchelton returned to the
winning circle last weekend to ease some pressure on Greg
Brown’s young side and will be keen to establish a good mid
table finish and a platform for improvement again next season.
Along with Andrew Balzat and Jason Roberts, Alistair Pase is
settling into the Premier League and got his name on the score
sheet last weekend and his coach will be looking for a
continuation of his good form. Palm Beach are well known for
their quick ball movement and their wide attacking style and
always play to score goals. John Costello has been one of their
best with his aggressive running down the left and will need to
be watched carefully, as will the hard working Daniel Fung.
Their defence is still one of the best and always win plenty of
ball to get their midfield and strikers moving forward and the
Mitchie defence may well have their hands full.

mitchelton football club art union 2005...
25 July 2005
As you are aware the Mitchelton Football Club is currently
conducting its annual Art Union.
We again have some great prizes on offer.
- First Prize is $3,000.00 cash donated by The
Professionals Keith Brady Real Estate at Everton Park.
- Second Prize is a fully registered Box Trailer (on view
inside the Clubhouse) donated by Aspinall Trailers.
- Third Prize is a Wheelbarrow (on view inside the
Clubhouse) full of gardening products donated by Bunnings
Warehouse.
- For the team who sells the most tickets we have a
Mitchelton Football Club Cap for every player and also a
Coaching session for the team with the Club’s Head Coach
Greg Brown. Greg is an ex-Socceroo and has coached the
Australian Women’s team, the Matilda’s, to the World Cup.
- For the individual player who sells the most tickets we
have a Sports Bag full of goodies to win.
Our Art Union is the only dedicated fundraising activity we
undertake each season and we use the funds raised to directly
improve our facilities. Late last year we decided to extend the
underground watering system from the No.1 and No.2 fields to
include the additional 6 junior fields. We thought the outlay in
doing so was well worth it, with the benefits being spread
across all our playing members. This year we plan to make our
final payment on this significant investment.
Each family in the Club has been issued with a book of 20 x
$2 tickets. Tickets are due back to the Club by the end of this
week, however if you need more time to sell all your tickets, we
are happy to receive them anytime up until the Art Union is
drawn on Saturday 6 August at 6.45pm.
If you would like a book of tickets or would like to support
our Art Union please let me know and I will organise to get in
contact with you as soon as possible.
Thank you again for your support.
